Except for the convenience of collecting hair if you have long hair, swim cap is designed to reduce friction with the water and allow a smoother flow and hence – faster swimming with less energy expenditure.

Wet your face a bit before trying the googles, put the googles on with out the straps, and see if it’s stay on your eyes when you band your head down. Ask yourself: Is easy to see through the lenses? Some googles have dark lenses designed for outdoor swimming to block the sun, those are not recommended for indoor pools.

B. Amateur/leisure swimmer: most are characterized by a wider body, larger lenses and are usually more comfortable and less tight.

C. very wide googles: designed for those with a large head, recreational divers or swimmers who don’t emphasis on swimming speed but seek a comfortable pair of googles, a wide vision.

3.Earplug

One of the worse troubles both professional and amateur swimmers experience is ear problems, ranging from hearing loss due to fluid accumulation in the ear drying together with the ear wax, creating a lamp blocking the auditory canal, through repeated and painful ear infections.

The simplest way to avoid them is to use ear plugs for swimming. The most common earplugs are made of silicon, and screw into the ear, preventing the penetration of water and “catch” into the ear so they do not move out while swimming.

After the swim, when removing the ear plugs, it is important to spray them lightly with rubbing alcohol, which you can purchase at any pharmaceutical store, to prevent contamination of the earplugs and ear infection.

In recent years, many children and adults uses regular not for water earplugs or clay-like earplugs in the water, but their use is ineffective and not recommended.

4.  Fins

There are several types of fins, the ones recommended for swimming are the lighter and shorter, which are like the old fashion diving fins.

5. Lap Counter

Wait a minute, how many lap we had there? Five? Fifty? Every swimmer, amateur or professional, want to know in the end of the training how many laps were done, or at least take pride in the daily mileage. But during the interval between each lap and  underwater deep thoughts cause us to confuse in the count. So why not  using a lap counter?

This sweet little thing look like any other watch. It measures the number of hand movements and calculates the number of laps been made after appropriate calibration of the pool size. The lap conter, also calculate the mileage you have done, can measure times and of course – also shows the time.

Advanced lap counter also allows you to transfer the data to a computer and create graphs to track  your progress in swimming.

The most important tip, is to relax. Do not be afraid to swallow some water, take your time to get used to the water temperature (if you need to catch your breath), try to keep your head 30 seconds under water and than come up. It is helpful way to reduce the Fear Factor in swimming. BY the way, this is a proven method to teach children how to swim – First neutralize the fear and only then teach them the technique.

Is it Not recommended to eat before swimming? That’s is not true. you can eat light meal or snacks before swimming and it does not affect your performance in water (Of course heavy meal which include lots of meat is not recommended).

It is good idea to set yourself a goal before the workout, like a time frame or a certain distance you should swim. This is helpful in order to know if and when to increase the exercise intensity.

Swimming in designated swim lane is a must. Almost every indoor pool, has at least one lane for swimmers only, sometimes it is very crowded and sometimes not, it is recommended to swim in that route. Swimming anywhere else in the pool can make you a target facility playground (kids play who can stay in front of you more time and escape at the last minute dive down under you if you’re really unlucky – will jump you, etc. …

Types of swimming:

As you probably know there are four main types of swimming: fornt crawl, back crawl, breast strokes and butterfly. Each style uses different  groups of muscle, mainly because they operate a little different. lets explore the differences between thous types of swimming:

Fornt Crawl:  This is the most common swimming type and the most effective. In this style we are swimming horizontally and moving the hands in the form of a windmill, while trying to enter the hand into the water as smooth as possible.
When the hand is in the water try to form eight figure in the water, form the center of the body out and then take the hand out of the water again. Beginners should breath one breath every two movements, this will allow you to catch your breath without raising the levels of lactate in muscle.

Breast Strokes: this type of style the one most people learn first, because it’s the easiest to learn and it does not require high-level technique.
The secret in breast stroke is symmetric.Try to move your hands away from you, then spread your hand to the side and rake water out, while moving the hands into 90 degrees from the body. Breathing are carried out on the scale of one breath per movement. Every breast stroke you made you take your head out to breath.

Back Crawl: back crawl is a very elegant style, in which you swim with your backs toward the floor of the pool and perform a stroke at a time. Raise your hand straight up to a 90 degrees of the body, then turn the wrist 180 degrees rotation and bring it down into the water .
Breathing, deepened on your convenience – many people take a breath with every stroke of each hand clean breath.

Butterfly: butterfly is the most difficult style to learn and perform, because it requires a high level of technique, combined with core power and good upper body muscles. Try to start by doing some underwater dolphin movements, after few push yourself  onto the water sharply upward and open your hand wide as a butterfly, till both hands meet in the line of the head (middle).

How to set the distance swimming recommended to us?
You can do it by using the following method: go into the pool and start swimming to determine the maximum distance you can swim without stopping. Let assume you can swim the maximum distance is 200 meter  (eight laps). Multiply this distance by 4 and rest for a minute after each set.
If you feel it is too difficult for you, you can do the pyramid method: Use the start distance of 200 meters, and take of each set 25% (approximately) off the distance – that is 200-150-125 etc … repeat until you get to 25 meters.

Remember, relax and breathe in an orderly way, make sure you are doing the proper motion and try to increase the distance every other week (every two weeks increase the distance).

We all know that sunscreen, a hat, shade, right clothing, drinking plenty of water and limiting the time spend in the hot sun, are the most effective against sunburns – but for those of us who took a chance and got burned, or just didn’t realize how strong the UV radiation that day actually was, here are few natural remedies effective for relief should sunburn accure:

1. Water: First and most importantly, to promote healing of the skin, you need to inject massive amounts of water to the body. Not only to avoid dehydration, but to allow the body to renew skin cells. So start by drinking plenty of water.

2. Aloe Vera: Aloe vera gel or aloe vera plant is an effective treatment to sunburn. It is a natural solution that does not require limiting the dose. You can apply at any time and you would feel  immediate relief. When using Aloe Vera make sure to avoid moisturizing cream that has a small amount of real Aloe Vera, and prefer gel or creams that has Aloe Vera as the sole or main ingredient. The best is the to use the Aloe Vera plant it self as is it in nature, cut one leaf of the Aloe Vera plant and use the sticky clear green gel, it stinks but works as a charm.

3. Vitamin E: Vitamin E is known to have therapeutic capabilities preventing scars and curing burns to the skin. To speed healing, take capsules of vitamin E, or apply Vitamin E directly on skin in a gel or as a cream. 
4. Flowers Water spray : cooling water spray is a great relief in situations of sunburns – a as well as cooling on hot summer days. carry with you a bottle and fill it with cold water. You can add lavender extract and / or chamomile known to have healing and soothing capabilities, and a nice relaxing smell. Keep the bottle refrigerated and use throughout a hot summer day.

5. Oatmeal bath: to prevent scratching of the sunburns and relieve the burning, try a warm water oatmeal bath. Be aware that the dispersion of oatmeal bath can clog the plumbing, to prevent it  you can wrap the oatmeal in a cloth and put it into the water like you are using a big tea bag.

6. Mustard: Mustard helps increase blood circulation, which encourages the healing process and eases the pain. You can use the commercial product or the mustard seeds themselves. Mix the mustard with warm water and drink. 

7. Apple cider vinegar: Apple cider vinegar is known for its positive health effects. It is unclear why it’s helps heal sunburn, but it does, and many people find it useful. Mix it at a ratio of 1-1 with lukewarm water. Soak clean towel in it and put it as compresses. You can also put it in a squirt bottle, and spray on the sunburn.

8. Hemorrhoid cream: Surprising, but hemorrhoids ointment contain thyme oil which is effective for relieving itching and burning. You can buy it in most of the drugstores and apply on the burn.

9. Plain Yogurt: Apply plain cold yogurt on the sunburn or the hot red sopt, and let it stay till the coolness goes. The cold yogurt relief the pain and help restore the damage skin

Important to note: before any attempt, you should test any of the ingredients mentioned above on a small area of the skin, to make sure your body does not react negatively. If it is serious burns consult a doctor first.

In all honesty, if I were buying these for numerous children in my family, which I do have, and for myself and husband, the price would be a bit steep for me.
