Go Low and Flat, Not High
A high bun creates a pressure point that pushes most hats up and off. Gather hair low, at the nape of the neck, and keep it flat rather than piled — that’s the position any snug-fitting hat is actually shaped to cover.
Look for a Stretchy, Adjustable Fit
Every Nammu hat is made from 80% nylon and 20% spandex with an adjustable tie-back. That combination — real stretch plus an adjustable band — is what lets a single hat work across different hair volumes, rather than fitting only one head of hair well.
Do Swim Caps Keep Long Hair Completely Dry?
Honestly — no fabric swim hat, Nammu included, seals out water completely. That level of waterproofing takes a tight silicone cap, and even those let some water in around thick or curly hair. Nammu hats are UPF 50+ sun-protective hats first: their job is shielding your scalp, hairline, and neck from UV exposure while you’re in the water, not creating a waterproof seal. Braiding hair first and tucking it in fully will keep it noticeably drier, but expect some dampness with long or thick hair — that’s true of any swim cap on the market.
